Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 19 weeks pregnant and I m I n a committed relationship with my child s father. We recently had a situation occur to where he cheated and that resulted in me contracting trichomoniasis. I was treated for it and retested about a month later to follow up. Now this time I tested positive for chlamydia. My husband hasn t undergone any testing so I m just wondering how this showed up in the 2nd test and not the first one.
Recurrence is sometimes possible with chlamydia because dormant forms of the bacteria may remain in the body. Also, one may notice these symptoms when the treatment was incomplete. This may also be seen when the bacteria is resistant to the treatment.
It would be a good idea to get an STD panel done again. Start the right treatment and then recheck at periodic intervals. Avoiding sexual intercourse or using contraception with sexual intercourse would be a good idea.
Please reach out if you have any other questions. I hope this helps. All the best.
