Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A couple nights ago I awoke to choking on a large amount of thin clear like fluid rushing out of my nasal passages. I have since noticed some episodes of double vision. Noted my sight has been getting worse and family have been telling me of some personality changes. Any ideas?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Choking and passage of large amounts of clear fluid from nasal passage is suggestive of leakage of CSF from nasal passages. CSF leakage can occur due to fracture of ethmoid bone (a bone forming floor of orbit), meningomyelocele (a structural abnormality), etc. Associated double vision is almost confirmatory of fracture of floor of orbit. Orbit is the circular bony structure in which the eye ball lies. A fracture of floor of orbit can lead to dis-orientation of the eye ball and thus double vision. Personality changes have to be evaluated by a physician. Thus, consult your primary healthcare provider for a CT scan of head and neck. Further management will depend on the result of CT scan.
