General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

There are few possibilities that should be ruled out:
An actual swelling of lymphoid tissues
Chronic epiglottitis
Psychological factors

This can be diagnosed by consulting an ENT surgeon and I insist on an ENT endoscopy to see for any cause. CT scan or MRI of neck helps to confirm or rule out any obvious cause. If everything is normal then this is most probably psychological or due to smoking. Stop smoking. Take plenty of oral fluids. Identify any factors, foods or beverages that instigate or enhance the feeling and stop these altogether.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
