Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Father in law age 85 again went to ER and back within about 4 hrs with obvious bleeding and not from a recent catheter change done over a week ago after which and never before his urine didn t seem ok color, odor, etc. according to staff at personal care facility. Has had cath since mid Oct 2016 ;very large prostate and flow problem; is also CHF patient ( pacemaker and stents and robotic open heart surgery and about 25% fraction working) and prone to small bowel obstructions having had colon removal (about 10 inches)surgery and hernia surgery and repair. Family dr has stated chronic anemic disease because levels such as platelet, RBC, hemoglobin, etc. are low. Could he be bleeding internally?
Chronic anemia mostly happens due to prolong bleeding or poor intake or poor absorption or poor bone marrow function. Very often seen in bowel diseases like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Colonoscopy should be done to explore the bowel and look for any bleeding spots or any other bowel disease.
Thanks
