What Causes Chronic Back Pain Post A Cholecystectomy?

Greetings, I just had several goldstones and my goldbladder removed. I was prescribed oxycodone-acetaminophen 5-325 and Ra Col-Rite 100 mg. However, I have a lot of back pain and stomach...Blown kind of feeling. I also have not had any bowel movement since prior to my release from the hospital. I regularly take myrbetrique for incontinency and gabapentin for a spinal issue. I took the myrbetrique but I have reservations whether or not to take the gabapentin to see if the back pain subsides. I did apply a Flector Patch on my back, which I also use regularly, alternating with the gabapentin and meloxicam. However, I have my reservations as to whether or not I should take the gabapentin and/or the meloxican...in essence, my fear is because of the oxycodone...I don t like opioids. May I have your thoughts please, thank you. (I am 68 yrs old and have been suffering from spinal issues since 2005, after an attack my a mentally unstable individual, I was a Court Interpreter. I have bulges, herniated discs, a pinched nerve at L-5 & S1 but the worse is from C-2 through C-7. Thank You.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As you have previous hiatory of spinal issue so may this back pain is because of that, and may be you need surgery for that if it is not controlling with medication. Back pain may also be due to gynecokogical problems, fever, vaginal discharge or pain in lower abdomen may suggest a gynecological disorder. Also as you are saying it occurs in stomach site, so it may be a post cholecystectomy syndrome , in which patients experience the same symptoms as before the surgery. If it is so then you should consult your surgeon. For back pain, you need to lose your weight if you are obese, sleep on hard surfaces like floor, and don't do any activity which involes frequent bending or prolong bending forward.
