What Causes Chronic Constipation Along With Abdominal Pain?

I am 63 years old. work full time, have been going to boot camp 4 mornings a week and have managed to lose 15+ pounds in 16 weeks. Despite drinking plenty of water and eating a high fiber (lots of veggies) diet, I have been constipated for the last 3 weeks, (very unusual for me), have stomach pain (midline, below my sternum) and am really tired by 2 in the afternoon. I also have 2 teens with cognitive delays (adopted) living at home. Am I just getting old?

Hello
Chronic constipation,abdominal pain,tiredness can be due to irritable bowel syndrome,inflammatory bowel disease or malignancy in intestine.
If your constipation has lasted for more than 2-3 weeks,you need to visit gastroenterologist.
Blood tests for thyroid,colonoscopy,USG abdo may be advised.Further management depends on the results of these tests.
Calcium and iron supplements may also cause constipation.Talk about this with your physician.
You may use over the counter mild stool softener like liquid paraffin,2 tsps ,for 3 days before going to bed.
Drink warm water in morning.
Consume 3-4 servings of vegetables and fruits.Include brans like oats in diet everyday.
