What Causes Chronic Cough After Sleeping In Cold Weather?

My 8 year old grandson has a chronic hacking cough after sleeping outside in a tent in damp weather three nights in a row. When he woke up each a.m. he was soaking wet as was his sleeping bag and tent. I am very upset that my daughter and son in law let him sleep outside after the first night of symptoms. What could be wrong?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, we should first rule out pneumonia in your grandson's case.
He Is having severe wet coughing, perspiration etc.
All these started after sleeping outside in cold weather. Actually cold weather can cause lower respiratory tract infection (pneumonia). And this is quite common in pediatric age group because of poor lung immunity.
So better to consult pediatrician and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and chest x ray.
He may need antibiotics and other supportive drugs.
Avoid sleeping in cold weather. Don't worry, he will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your grandson. Thanks.
