What Causes Chronic Cough After Taking Augmentin?

My 6 year old was prescribed augmentin for strep throat today and we gave her a dose a 6 pm it is now 1:50 am. She has been coughing a lot more tonight and is very hoarse, when she woke up about 1/2 hour ago she seemed to be having trouble breathing. She has since fallen back asleep and seems to be resting comfortably. How can I tell if she is having trouble breathing or if she just coughed herself hoarse? Would a allergic reaction wait this long from when she took it at 6 pm?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It looks like she is suffering an allergic reaction to Augmentin. She has to stop taking it.

Your doctor will change the medication maybe to erythromycin. Inform your doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
