What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Constant Need For Gagging?
I have been recently sick with a cold a little over a week ago, and I have been feeling better since then except yesterday. I came down with a really bad cough. Every time I cough, I get a bad burning sensation, it almost feels like an acid reflex. The cough is so bad that I end up gagging, or even sometimes throwing up. Me coughing happens almost everyday when I wake up for school. When I wake up for school, it feels like I have something stuck in my throat.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough along with constant need for gagging which is due to upper respiratory track infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications. You should do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances , apply dry warm compresses on external ear. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. if symptoms keeps on persisting you should consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 5 days along with decongestant. Also drink green teat with ginger thrice a day and avoid bending forward. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenetrsologist for problem like acid reflux or allergy specialist for asthma like problem .
