What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Difficulty In Swallowing?

YEs, i"m 66 years old. I have dry mouth all the time, difficulty swallowing, coughing usually in the morning but throughout the day too until I gag, wretch or throw up. I have lots of mucous, but also have altered taste sensation, It's like whatever I drink or eat has a bitter aftertaste, similar to the aftertaste of a diet soda. I am on .200 mg of levothyroxine, taking finasteride, Echotrin 81 mg and 2.5 mg of Amlodipine. I am very concerned because of the coughing and vomitting every day. This started several months ago when I was working a temp job in New Mexico, I was staying in Farmington NMm but working in Shiprock, NM, at the Indian health service. My vocation is Radiology and CT tech. Any idea what I might have?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like all your symptoms are due to side effects of the medication that you are taking as Dry mouth is a common side effect of the medication that you are taking..
Blood pressure medication like Amlodipine as well as levothyroxine are commonly seen to cause dry mouth and altered taste is due to dry mouth as well as medicines..
Due to excessive dryness in mouth there is irritation in mouth that can initiate cough..
So my suggestion is to consult your Physician and discuss about your symptoms..
After a proper examination your medication dosage will be either reduced or the drugs can be changed..
For dry mouth you should start chewing sugarfree chewing gum and suck lemon drops..
Drink plenty of water..
Intraoral lubricants can be brought from the pharmacy so that you do not experience dryness..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
