What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Fever And Headache?

I have had chronic barking cough for more than 3 weeks and have seen two different docs. One said possibly beginning of bronchitis the next one two weeks later said allergies. Cough syrup, musinex, lozenges, a course of prednisone, benzotate, inhaler and nothing seems to help. No fever but fatigue and headache and metal taste when coughing. They both said my lungs are clear. What can it be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Noted the history and understood your concerns.
The first and most important is now investigations like that of phlegm for gram staining, AFB staining, culture and sensitivity.
Also needed are tests of blood, X-ray of chest and sinuses and CT scans if there is any positive finding.
All these are required as your symptoms are lingering for 3 weeks in spite of visits to 2 different Doctors and you have been given correct line of management.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
