What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Shortness Of Breath?

I am having a lot of croup type coughing and shortness of breath when I have the coughing. No fever. Slight headache and runny nose. I started taking Robitussin DM last night and that s when the runny nose started. I tried to go to a clinic this afternoon but they wouldn t see me because I had never been there before. We just moved here a few months ago and don t have a Dr.

Hello,

If the cough is there for less then 2-3 weeks and you have no fever or fatigue very likely this is a self limiting condition due to a common cold. In this case you can go on with the Robitussin and make sure you do drink plenty and rest as possible and you should start to feel better in a few days.

If the cough is for more then 2-3 weeks or you have fever for more then 4-5 days they you will need to see your doctor to rule out pneumonia or other lung conditions or rarely problems with the heart.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
