What Causes Chronic Cough And Chest Pain In Spite Of Taking Zpack And Promethazine Codeine?

I just finished taking z pack for 5 days (full cycle) and I feel no improvement. I m weak, I m coughing uncontrollably to the point I throw up, I have pain under my armpits when I cough, I have diarrhea, and my skin feels like it s on fire..why is the z pack not taking care of this? I tested negative for the flu but was running a temperature and coughing uncontrollably and had a pounding headache when I was prescribed it 5 days ago. I was also prescribed promethazine codeine.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic cough and chest pain in spite of taking Zpack and Promethazine codeine which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to panic about it. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin in combination with antiallergic medication such as Levocetirizine. I would suggest you to take cough expectorants along with nasal sprays and do warm saline gargles. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests to check level on infection and start treatment after proper prescription. You should apply mist humidifiers in room.
