What Causes Chronic Cough And Fever Despite Taking Antibiotics?
I have been to the quick care clinic twice lately (12/16/17 and 0101/18) It started as a chest cold with laryngitis. They initially gave me Augmentin and a steroid. I took both and got worse. I went back yesterday and they gave me a Z pac. I took the first 2 tablets yesterday and one today. I m also taking OTC meds for the symptoms - not helping. I continue to get worse. I cough so hard, so often that I haven t slept in over 36 hrs. I now have a fever, my throat is killing me, weak and fevered. They listened to my chest and gave me a chest x-ray. It looks clear, but I feel like I m drowning in congestion. Am I missing something? I am barely functioning. Thank you - Amanda

You have chronic cough &fever despite taking antibiotics, fever indicates infection. Most possible thing is bacterial resistance to the antibiotic that is why there is no lessening of the symptoms.
You need investigation like CBC/sputum test for culture and sensitivity test followed by suitable antibiotic and other needful medicines.
Allergy could be cause of recurrent affection. So, recognizing allergens and avoiding exposure to allergens forms another thing to prevent recurrence.
Maintain healthy lifestyle with avoiding allergens, eating permissible nutritious food, drinking warm water in sufficient amount, avoiding exposure to dust, and smokes. Doing hot saline garbled would help.
