Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello I woke up a week ago coughing and hacking up the most foul smelling and tasting brown, green and yellowish mucus, but it was just mucus it was very VERY thick, so thick it was getting caught in my throat trying to come out and I could feel it, as if it was a piece or flap of something like sand paper. this continued on for three days then I woke up on Saturday with no voice, my voice has finally returned about 80%, but now I have the worst rib pain in my upper left side, it hurts to the touch cough laugh or anything thing that makes it move. It feels and appears to be swollen. I m not sure if its just something viral going around or if I should be seen
hi sir/mam,your symptoms make me think of pleural(membranes covering lungs) inflammation due to lower respiratory infection.throat irritation, congestion, loss of voice and thick mucus are all symptoms of severe pharyngitis or throat inflammation may be with tonsillitis.such an infection can spread to the lower respiratory tract too if appropriate antibiotics are not used.the following are the important causes o& pleural pain : 1)tuberculosis 2)empyema(pus in lungs) 3)pleural effusion 4)pneumonia
to those patients who visit my clinic with similar symptoms,I advise a chest x-ray PA view to terminate speculations and to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis.hope my answer satisfies you.any other doubts, please do not hesitate to write to us.we are always ready to help you.take care.thank you.bye.
