My husband has a chronic cough which typically bothers him in the am when he first awakes. It subsides and doesn t annoy him during the rest of the day. However, this evening his cough persists. There is no mucus or flem. Should he be seen by a medical doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.. I have gone through your question and understand your concern.

If I would have been your treating physician,I would have had following possibilities for that :

1) First possibility is it is mostly seen in chronic tobacco smoker as in smoker cough will settle down due to gravity effect in night and it will come out in morning due to irritation.

2) The second possibility could be If cough is for more than 2 week and associated with fever-especially evening rise in temperature and weight loss then I would have suspected Tuberculosis and advised him for Sputum for AFB and Xray Chest.

I would suggest you to consult your physician and get X ray chest, Sputum for AFB done. If you have any further questions ,feel free to ask me anytime

Regards
