What Causes Chronic Cough With Piercing Headaches?

Hello. I think I may just have a vicious cold but I am not sure as it appears to be getting worse and not better. It has been going on for 10 days. No temperature. Piercing headaches and has moved into my chest. Bad cough. Today, day 10 I spent in bed. Slept most of afternoon. Feeling worse rather than better. On limited health insurance. Do not want to go to doctor and charged $100 and told to go home and rest. Was in Africa for three months in Mozambique returned home on December 20th and was fine for 2 weeks before I came down with this. No fever. I am mostly confident it is not malaria because I am not having regular fevers. Thank you for any guidance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The history you give suggests sinus infection followed by chest infection.

You need Antibiotic like A Azithromycin with anti-cold-decongestant pill & cough expectorant over the counter twice a day after food. with personal care like protecting from cold weather & allergens. Saline gargled & vapor inhalation and nutritious food light to digest. A treating doctor's opinion for dosage is advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
