What Causes Chronic Coughing With Difficulty Breathing?

Hello, 24 yr old male. I've been coughing 2.5 wks now... sluggish, and fatigued the first wk. no other recognizeable symptoms, that i have been aware. pretty bad cocugh, to the point where co-workers say i have a bad smokers cough. I do not smoke though. Been running this nasty A/C in my apartment that past wk or so to fight the heat, but turned it off noticing my cough was not going away. Sore muscles etc from coughing. Went from yellow mucus, to white, to almost none during the days, but yellow in the morning and at night? the last day or two, starting to feel a slight constriction when i breathe. No insurance at the moment, at what point do I need to go and see a doctor, because my body cannot fight whatever it is off by itself? and any idea as to what may be going on?

Sorry to say about the condition of insurance .
The symptoms which you mentioned are progressively deteriorating and in the day you feel "dry " cough , while early in the morning there is yellow to white mucus or expectoration .
No relief in hot atmosphere ( without AC).
All these symptoms may be due to these reasons , these includes.
1 Asthmatic allergic bronchitis . As you also mentioned that there is difficulty in breathing also. Shortness in breath, wheeze, cough , these symptoms are an indication of asthmatic allergic bronchitis .Physical examination will find the cause.
2 Since these symptoms are from last 20 days so we can't rule out tuberculosis . Get in XRAY chest as well blood examination for C B C & E S R ( if very high > 50 mm of 1st consider about the tuberculosis.
3 Bronchitis complicated or uncomplicated .
Other reasons of such symptoms may be rhinitis , pneumonia .
But at present I recommend you visit a physician and get his opinion. In such condition I usually prescribe monteleukast+ bambuterole tablet according to condition of disease .
AMOXY+CLAVULANIC ACID capsule twice in day for expectoration.
Salbutamol + ambroxole cough syrup.
