What Causes Chronic Depression After Recovering From Flu?

Hi Dr - I had the flu last November. After I recovered, I noticed I was feeling depressed. I thought, no problem, it will go away as i get better. Well, it hasn t lifted, it s still with me. I fake it througout the days but it just remains. I try not to focus on it, taking up tasks, fixing things,...going for walks, etc. I also have a woozy feeling when I am still, like right now for instance. I have no wooziness when I drive or am moving around or in someone els s car. Can you give some insight on this? I ve read about the cytokines that chase the flu away, but are they causing the depression? Thank you for this website.......

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. I think your depression is not related to flu or its medication. You can meet a psychologist for consultation before taking any antidepressants.

Take care.

Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you.

Best regards. Dr.Olgeta Xhufka ( general and family physician ).
