My mother has been on Dilantin for 3 yrs for partial complex seizures that began following surgery for an AVM in the back of her head. Her seizures have been under control for most of the time since but she was admitted in late October for a seizure that followed a long period (36 hrs). of insomnia ( she has been an insomniac for at least 20 years) and dehydration (NaCl 27). They put her on remeron which helps her sleep but now her behavior has become increasingly bizarre, with angry outbursts, staggering, serious depression about things that happened in her childhood (she is 81). Then she becomes relatively normal, but so remorseful that she starts crying again. She has always been high strung but this extreme behavior is really scary. My whole family is involved and will do anything to help her. Any advice?
