What Causes Chronic Diarrhea Despite Taking Imodium?
I have had diarrhea for approximately ten days. In the beginning I didn t feel well and every time I tried to eat it was like eating shards of glass and my stomache would literally hurt. It was like I was trying to pass a brillo pad. Since then I feel much better but the diarrhea hasn t really slowed down. I am taking an over the counter medication, Imodium and that seems to help temporarily. Should I just keep taking it to give my system a break. I feel pretty good and the sharp pains hate stopped but just can t seem to get the diarrhea under control. Help?
The diarrhea persistently for a period of 10 days indicate possible intestine infection through some sort of bacteria or virus infection. In my clinic, after clinical examination of the patient, I would recommend a basic screening with complete hemogram, stool microscopy report in the microbiology lab. Later depending upon the report: GI specific antibiotics as rifaximin or metronidazole Probiotics with lacto bacillus Prebiotics with sachromysis bullardiai and dietary care can help to recover faster.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
