What Causes Chronic Diarrhea?

I ve experienced about 6 weeks of diarrhea that happens often. Keep in mind that I ve actually had to live in the wilderness for the past 2 months and I drank chlorinated stagnant water and shared plenty of food. Do I have Giardia or some other illness and should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems you have contracted a severe intestinal infection because of drinking contaminated water and also food. You need to get a stool culture done to determine whether it is a bacterial or amoebic infection because the treatment and whether you need an antibiotic course or anti amoebic course will depend on the result of the stool culture. Meanwhile, you should make sure to take lots of fluids and keep yourself hydrated. Take light meals as and when you feel hungry. Take ORS mixed with water according to the instructions written on the sachet. You can start taking Probiotic Respules as it will help to restore the natural flora of the intestine and help you to recover faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
