Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having Chronic fatigue after any kind of exercise that cause exertion to my heart, such as running on a treadmill, lifting and carrying boxes, pushing a lawn mower. Im exhausted for 2 to 4 days afterwards. I have had epstein barr 16 yrs ago and diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at that time, but im having about 2-3 episodes a month following exercise. Is there anything I can take to help me be more active and should i be concerned their is heart damage? My blood pressure has been running 110-120 over 40-60.
As mentioned in your history about chronic fatigue syndrome, a thorough neuromuscular assessment is advised. Also a pulmonary function test will be advised to see the capacity of lungs.
As you get fatigue with little exercises or exertion you need to perform exercises which balances your metabolism and oxygen carrying blood cells.
I have seen patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. I usually make a pulmonary function test, post which the patient is taught how to control and improve the respiratory system. and then later stages body conditioning exercises are performed to regain the metabolic balance of the muscles and oxygen consumption.
During fatigue, the oxygen consumption during any physical acitvity will be on a higher side and to balance the oxygen consumption and oxygen utilization needs a proper understanding.
I will advice you to undergo physcial therapy session where a therapist will help you how to delay the fatigue onset and how to even increase the endurance of muscle functions.
