What Causes Chronic Feeling Of Cold Feet At Night?

i Have cold feet, especially at night. For years.. I have been wearing heavy socks, 2 pairs, and use a small heating pad for my feet at night. My Doctor diagnosed me two years ago as having neuropathy in my legs and feet, and recently prescribed Gabapentin, 300 mg, to treat it , 1 every morning, and 2 at bedtime. I haven t started using them yet. , because I am concerned about side effects, especially regarding vision, since I have just had cataract surgery-lens replacement, glaucoma and macula degeneration that have been treated to stability. Your information and suggestions will be much appreciated. Sincerely, William (Bill) C Wright I am 73, retired, and have advanced education (MS, PhD abd) and research experience in the biological and medical fields, so you may use technical terms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all its sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, yes, it seems to be early signs of sensory neuropathy, but peripheral blood circulation also plays some role like constricted blood vessels can cause cold extremities.

Keeping warm does help in such cases but not in neuropathic pains or cold sensations. Vitamin B12 and folic acid also play some role, so it's good to get the levels checked. Sugar levels and Thyroid functions should also be done. Meanwhile, low dose Doluxetine or Gabapentin also play some role in treatment and the usage should be discussed with your primary ophthalmologist for safety in your case.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
