What Causes Chronic Headache And Numbness In The Hand?

I have been experiencing severe headaches everyday for almost two weeks now. They tend to start almost suddenly and no matter the amount of over the counter medicine I take, it doesn t fully go away. It has gotten a little better to where I can fall asleep but then I ve been woken up twice in the middle of the night in pain. I have been very nauseous and threw up once and I ve had two nose bleeds this week. Since having these headaches my hands and feet go numb everyday as well. Sometimes I experience a tingling sensation but other times it just numb. My right side is mostly effected by the numbness. I went to the ER Monday night and they put me on an IV for a couple hours and gave me some medication that knocked me out and when I woke up they were discharging me from the hospital and said I ve been having tension headaches. I went on to research tension headaches and I am not a professional in any way shape or form but the information I found online about tension headaches doesn t seem to describe my symptoms. I am at a loss because I went to the professionals for help and I am still having the problems with no relief. What should I do?

Thank you for choosing HCM

I have looked through the description that you have given. I believe that you have a migraine. A migraine is a repititive headache and is caused by a trigger factor. To confirm this, you can keep a diary to note whenever the headache starts and try to remember what you were doing right before you got the headache.

A few examples of things that cause a migraine are:
Cold
Noise
Fever
Climate changes

Once you have confirmed what the trigger factor is, you can start to avoid the trigger factor. Also, please tell me if you have been having fever. If you have been having fever, then you need to be checked for other causes like meningitis(rare).

Certain migraine types also have aura. These aura are found in some cases. Examples are nausea and vomiting. This is what you might be having.

Here are a few things that you can try to help you:
- Drink lots of water
- Inhale steam several times a day
- Sleep well
- Avoid stress
- Eat regular meals
- Exercise at 30 minutes a day
- Take 1 tablet of Paracetamol when you feel a headache is about to start

I hope this helps you. All the best.
