What Causes Chronic Headaches And Excessive Sweating?

Hello. I live in atlanta and have been having chronic headaches over the past month, some sweating and then chills! I am a 51 female who just went off birth control (trilegest) after 10 years (with two breaks for foot surgery 7 years ago and just feeling like a needed a break a little over 3 years ago.) FYI: I am in a monogomous relationship. I was on trilegest and went off ~28 days ago. I also have lumbar scoliosis- so I get massages, acupuncture, and chiropractic care to keep my scoliosis from getting worse (it improved 3.5 degrees over 10 months - as of april). I did more traveling (flying, conferences and dinners) in June -and felt very compressed after that phase. My first debilitating headache (it got progessively worse when I was traveling, was June 22. Probably have had 10 since then, with three in the three nights. I swim, but now our gym pool is down, so I am not swimming too much - unless I drive 20 miles round trip to a sister gym with a pool - but am finding that the head right now is knocking me out. I do hot tubs and baths to ease muscle aches. I live in atlanta which is going through an awful hot spell. I am seeing my primary care guy monday am at 8:20 am, My temperature after my massage today was 100.69 degrees, My forward did not feel hot, but my massage therapist mentioned he noticed my body felt hot. I went through something similar last summer, without the headaces (two weeks of feeling zapped from the heat). So, my primary concern is the headaches. Thinking this could be: estrogen withdrawal, menopause ( I had a night sweat two nights ago), or heat exhaustion or dehydration. I also purchased an inversion table. I have only used it at 30 degrees, but have stopped since sunday to try to control factors. For a while I was wearing a neck brace to remind myself to keep my chin up when working, but have stopped that as well. Any thoughts on what else I should consider? Thanks, Susan Hogan

Hello,

Well, the amount of sweat considered normal is quite variable and depends on the demands of the body. Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, means that you sweat far more than your body needs you to sweat. For example, if you sweat while sitting calmly at your desk, that is excessive sweating. In hyperhidrosis, the body's cooling mechanism is so overactive that it produces four or five times the amount of sweat that you need. However, sometimes if sweating happens during the night or there is associated weight loss then it may indicate some more serious issues such as lymphoma or hormonal imbalances. In every case, if this persist you should see internist first to do some tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
