What Causes Chronic Hip And Back Pain While Having DDD?

hi I have been diagnosed with loss of fluid in 5 of my disks. I am in constant pain, back, leg, and hip. I am seeing a pain management doctor and have been referred to a surgeon. My question is, what can I expect from the surgeon...typically. I have been given a tens unit and it has helped but it was only a band-aid, not to mention an inconvenience.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, the surgeon specially neurosurgeon can evaluate any neurological deficits on detailed motor examination and any signs of nerve compression between the affected vertebrae.

For detailed evaluation films of CT or MRI may need to be reviewed.
Most of the time with supportive management like physiotherapy, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen and anti-inflammatory drugs the symptoms resolve.

If pain is severe more potent analgesic like tramadol or gabapentin may be needed. However very rarely a surgical treatment is sought if other measures fail.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
