What Causes Chronic Itching Sensation In Perineum?
i m a 20 year old male who has an exclusive parter and we use condoms. there is a frequent though not constant itching just above my anus (perineum). there is no rash or redness (except from any scratching) and the only visible sign is a tiny red bump on the seam which seems to be where the itching is. other than that bump, there is nothing visible, and besides the itching, there isn t much discomfort, it s just been getting on my nerves. what could this be? i also have eczema which is (i believe) isolated on my right forearm. Could it be eczema?
It is likely to be fungal infection of the perineum. I am glad you have an exclusive partner and using condom. The frequent itching just above the anus (perineum) is likely to be due to superficial fungal infection of the particular area. This occurs due to improper hygiene maintenance of the private area. The tiny red bump is just a sign of superficial infection. I suggest you to apply topical anti-fungal like ointment Clotrimazole thrice daily on the affected area after washing the area thoroughly with lukewarm water. Please continue to apply the ointment for a week.
Your symptoms should disappear soon. The ointment is available over the counter, you can get it from a local pharmacy. Don't get it on your nerves. It is a very common genital problem that most women and men face. It is not eczema. This is not related to your isolated eczema on the right forearm. Meanwhile, I suggest you to continue to use condom as it helps in preventing the transmission of infection between your partner and you.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shanthi E., General & Family Physician
