General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, there are various causes for the presentation of chronic knee pain with crepitus. The most common cause is age related senile changes in the joint surface, articular cartilages and surrounding structures, which pause cartilage destruction via chronic wear and tear of arthritis. Crepitus is secondary to air type material in the joint cavity in form of loose bone fragments. As rightly decided by your consultant, MRI knee joint is best and final path of diagnosis and cure accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
