Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Pain And Blood In Urine Post Hysterectomy?
I have a history of severe endometriosis with 9 laparoscopies and a hysterectomy at 33. I have continued to have chronic pain since but was given a diagnosis of the pain being caused by all of my scarring adhesions and nerve damage! However my pain is definitely more painful with ovulation and cyclical (did not have oopherectomy). Recently I have started having blood in my urine and am currently on the waiting list to see gyno team and a urologist! The wait is possibly up to 6-8 months. My GP is reluctant to say what could possibly causing it but both him and I have felt my endo has returned for quite awhile (currently 40yrs old) however my gynocologist does not believe this to be the case and does not wish to do more surgery. Now that I have started bleeding my GP and I feel that there is a high chance that it is back and potentially could also be on my lungs and diaphragm due to the cyclical pain I have been experiencing in my chest for the same period of time that I have been experiencing the bleeding! Could you possibly provide some guidance in the meantime whilst waiting for my appointment. Also when I am bleeding my pain levels go from about a 6 daily to an 8 out of 10 until the bleeding stops. However recently I seem to be bleeding more than not. Thank you in anticipation
As per my clinical experience, there can be various causes of blood in urine and chronic pain post hysterectomy as: - Recurrent urinary tract infections - Resistant UTI - Hysterectomy cuff inflammation or erosion - Endometriosis of the residual stump tissue - Coagulation disorders - Stone or gravels in the urinary system - Others
However, a detailed analysis with: @ Urine microscopy and culture @ Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis with or without CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis @ Diagnostic laparoscopy are some of the vitally needed investigations to start with the diagnostic approach.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
