What Causes Chronic Pain And Pressure At The Back Of The Neck?
Neck pain that feels like pressure and tightening followed by sharp tingling. Pain is at the higher back of the neck just below the base of the skull. Pain can be brought on by hot/cold fluxuations on the skin in that area also brought on after neck has been still like watching tv or reading then sharp pain upon certain movement of the neck usually backward. History of Arnold Chiari and chronic neck pain but this is more severe and recent. Appreciate any info/advice.
I suggest you get physically examined by a GP, to rule out any swelling or lumps & get all tests & investigations (X-ray, CT, MRI, EMG, NCV) done to detect the factor causing you the discomfort.
Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
