What Causes Chronic Pain Behind The Eye Affecting Vision?

WHi, my friend has severe pain behind her right eye that goes to the top her head. It is like being electrocuted with severe head aches that are disabling. Her vision is affected, her sinuses are also affected. She has had an MRI and she is being treated for optic nerve is swollen . She has had a steroid injection which wore off after a couple months and just received another. Could this be something else? At one point mengitis was mentioned as a possibility. Prior to this she had her blood ...pressure suddenly jump to over 180, then this started happening. Any suggestions? Will have my friend fill out complete info, thanks.
