What Causes Chronic Pain Behind The Knee?

While running lightly (and favoring right knee) I felt something pop behind my right knee. Nearly took me down. That was Saturday afternoon. I ve iced and wrapped and elevated. Still tender to put weight on, seems unstable. Some swelling. Seems to be improving but some pain when putting weight on it.

Hi.
I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Pain at the back Of the Knee could be due to arthritis, cramps of legs, Baker's cyst, ligament injury, calf strain, tendonitis, Meniscus tear etc.

I advice you to,
- Rest, don't strain the knee ( to bare body weight)
- keep ice pack
- compression bandage ( not too tight)
- Elevate the injured knee ( with pillows)
- Analgesics
-  Xray of right knee to find out the underlying pathology if any
- Blood investigations to assess the levels of ASO, CRP, RA factors.
- Consult your doctor for further assistance

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,

Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician
