What Causes Chronic Pain In The Limbs Of A Breast Cancer Patient?

I have had breast cancer, estrogen fed and have been taking remarks 2.5 for almost 5 years. I m also taking a statin for cholesterol. My legs and arms ache all the time and I can t sleep but for short periods because of the pain. I am tempted to stop taking both. I am 71 years old.

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to statin adverse effects. For this reason, the first thing to do would stop statins and see if your situation improves.

If your situation does not improve, I would recommend performing further tests in order to investigate the possible underlying causes:

- nerve conduction studies for peripheral neuropathy
- osteodensitometry for osteoporosis
- calcium and vitamin D plasma levels for deficiency
- vitamin B12 plasma levels for deficiency
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
