Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been experiencing stabbing pains in his stomach. This has been occurring off and on for quite a long time but has worsened in the past few months. He has had a hida scan of his gall bladder, colonoscopy, endoscopy, ct of the abdomen, ct of the chest, all of which have been negative. He gets sick several times a week after he eats and vomits. He is not one to vomit easy but seems to do it quite often lately. He is in bed right now with pains that he explains as knives in his stomach
The various imaging studies would have ruled out any structural cause of the pain eg a mass or abnormal structure of any aspect of the gastrointestinal tract.
Since no structural cause has been found then other areas would need to be assessed. He may want to consider a food diary to see if there are any specific foods causing the pain and also consider a neurologist.
Severe pain can sometimes be related to abnormal function or structure of the nerves that supply the structures in a particular area. This would not be seen on imaging.
I hope this helps
