What Causes Chronic Vomiting And Difficulty In Swallowing While On Lexapro?

Good morning. I definitely have a question to ask, but I am not entirely certain how to phrase it. Recently (2.5 weeks ago), I was prescribed Lexapro, 10mg per pose, per day. The first day or two, I felt fine, but the nausea and dizziness I was forewarned about, while taking the medication, hit me, but I am vomiting at least 2 times a day now and having moderate difficulty swallowing. The back of my throat feels extremely numb. I was told these feelings would pass, but they haven t, so I reduced my Lexapro dose down to 5mg a day. Should I try to take it every other day until my body adjusts? Or should I ask my PCP to perscribe an antinausea medication until the symptoms subside? There is family history of gastrointestinal issues and acid reflux. I have hypochloridia and minor glucose issues. I am struggling to adjust my food diet to try to subside the nausea, but I am not certain what I should be doing. Should I maybe go see a dietician again instead?

Hi,

Yes, Lexapro may cause stomach problems. The idea is good that you should reduce the dose to 5 mg however you need to take it daily not on an alternate day.

I would also suggest taking the drug after a meal to reduce such effects. However, we should not ignore other problems and put it all on the drug.

If you have gastric problems, I personally would advise you should go to a gastroenterologist for evaluation as if you have acid reflux disease that may be the causes of you vomiting and the drug may be aggravating it.

So that he sees and if needs would give you medicine for you gastric problem. He can also advise you about diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
