What Causes Chronic Vomiting?

My brother, age 57, has been vomiting often for the past 6 months. He has now lost 60 pounds, and nobody has been able to find a cause. He had his gallbladder removed a month ago, but the vomiting is persisting. We are beginning to think that his girlfriend is poisoning him...what tests could he have done to prove us wrong?
