What Causes Clear Vaginal Discharge After Total Hysterectomy Surgery?
It is 1 year 2 months post op for a total hysterectomy- removed via vagina. I had prior to the surgery clear watery discharge- I still continue to have it. Some days heavier or more fluid discharge than other. What is causing this? Where does the clear liquid come from?
Clear watery discharge for upto 6 weeks after a hysterectomy is considered normal, which is from the healing granulation tissue after surgery.
In order to understand the details, its required that a physical clinical examination be performed including to comment on the nature of the fluid, any odour, whether sticky, and pathological studies of the discharge.
This can be due to certain vaginal infections or if you had any episode of injury then this can be due to Genitourinary fistula. Genitourinary fistula is also a common complication of hysterectomy but this should not manifest this late.
We suggest you contact your gynaecologist who may decide to do an USG Abdo Pelvis and pathological & serological examination of the watery fluid.
