What Causes Clicking In Foot And Subsequent Pain On Walking?

I was walking down the stair and then i heard a click in my foot. I painful to walk on that foot straight away but when i sat down after a minute or two it was okay again but if i started walking after a minute or so it started hurting again. I was just like a jabbing pain. What's wrong with my foot?
