What Causes Clogged Left Ear Despite Taking Amoxicillin For Sore Throat?

I went to the dr on Tuesday of this week with a very sore throat and a lot of phlegm. He gave me amoxicillin and he had me take DM Cough & Congestion Relief and Mucus relief DM. I have a very plugged left ear and it will not drain. I have no hearing in my right ear because of nerve damage. I have a very loud swishing sound in the left ear that keeps time with my heart beat. Is there something I can do to get some relief.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that plugging of the left ear along with swishing sound seems to be due to blocked eustachian tube along with fluid accumulation behind the eardum..
It is commonly seen after severe cold and phlegm and generally resove gradually once the cold resolves..
As of now you should continue taking the prescribed medicine to you that you are taking along with it you can take decongestant nasal sprays like Xylometazoline or oxymetazoline containing sprays..
You should do steam inhalations..
Avoid chilled foods and drink warm water..
In case if there is no resolution in a week consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x ray , MRI etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
