What Causes Clotting Of Blood During Menstruation?

My last period began on May 8th and ended on the 14th. On monday, the 23rd, when I went to use the bathroom, a blood clot came out. It was a really light red. It was pink. I have not had sex (still a virgin), but my boyfriend and I were fooling around right before the bleeding occurred. What is this?
