What Causes Clubbed Fingers And Abnormal Thickness In The Finger Nails?

Age:23, Gender: Male 23 year old male. 5 10 195lbs. All of my fingers have been clubbing. My nails have become wide and thick giving them an abnormal round appearance. the skin above all of my cuticles are slightly raised and red. All of my nails do not extend straight out, they curve down. I m almost certain that my nails are clubbing and I m extremely concerned because there is no denying there is something wrong considering the abnormalities. My nails used to be straight and norrow with normal skin around it. Now my nails are abnormally round and extreme wide. I have all the physical symptoms of clubbing. I smoke a pack a day for approximately 8 years. I do experience shortness of breath at times when doing physical activities. I cough up phlegm that is consistent with a tat like substance. I m in great shape and work out six days a week. I ve read up on clubbing and the possible causes are very alarming. Is it too late to reverse the clubbing? Is it possible that it is from smoking, and if not what can it be?
