What Causes Cold And Cough Along With Facial Pain?
i have had a cold since 2/15. symptoms include... cough, and most recently bright green mucus from my nose and facial pain. I am wondering if the cold has turned into a sinus infection. i do still have the cough too. i was feeling a bit better for a couple day, but now i am feeling worse again. i have had a low grade fever on and off.
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If there are symptoms of cold and cough present that are associated with facial pain then it can be most probably due to progression of cold into sinus infection or sinusitis.
In that case you need to take antibiotics for relieving the infection.
You should first of all consult an Emergency room or a Physician and get evaluated and a sinus X-ray (PNS view X-ray) can be done to rule out the cause.
In case if there is sinus infection you can be advised a course of antibiotics like Amox-clav, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. Do warm compresses around nostrils.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
