What Causes Cold Flashes, Chills And Tremors In A 51 Year Old Woman?

Monday night I had what I thought was a cold flash or rigors when I woke up shaking and shivering like I was freezing, it was extreme. It s the 4th time it has happened. It lasted a good 20 minutes before I finally dropped off to sleep wrapped up in blankets with it still happening. When I woke up, I had this dent in my cheek that s very noticeable. Added info, I am turning 51 in September, have had all the signs of perimenopause for 5 - 6 years or more and should be in full menopause now, 3 months ago I completed a 6 month treatment for hepc that caused my stage 4 liver disease with cirrhosis. I was on Vikira Pak with Ribavirin.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted a history about a 51 year old female having shake up and shivering like freezing lasting for 20 minutes happened 4 times till now, completed 6 month treatment for Hepatitis-C.
Since there is so much problem you need the following:
Consult your Doctor, give detailed history, have clinical evaluation and examination.
Investigations as per the clinical findings can help to know the cause.
Blood samples drawn during the shivering stage helps further.
Urine tests for routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity can help a lot for a proper diagnosis and proper management.
Also needed is X-ray of chest and an Ultrasonography of abdomen to see for liver problems, a possibility of concealed infection should be looked for and get treated as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
