What Causes Cold Followed By Ear Pain And Reduced Hearing?

I had cold for few days and then it started to pain in my right ear. I used painkillers and the pain reduced but then the ear seems to be locked and my hearing is reduced. I can feel similar symptoms in left ear as well. I consulted an ENt and he said the ear drum is wet because of cold and so the hearing is bad. He advised some ear drops and steam inhalation for controlling cold. I used them for 4 days now and cold is gone except for little cough but the hearing is still bad. Sometimes I feel like blocking gets cleared a bit and can hear better but it reduces in few seconds again.

Please advise.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello!
i think your ent doctor is right, as many times in cold, fluid tends to accumulate in the middle ear, causing hearing loss +/_ pain.
you should continue your medications and take steam inhalation, this will ope the eustachian tube ( tube between your ear and nose) and drain the fluid , which will make you feel better,
thanks
