What Causes Coldness And Shivering In A Woman After Child Birth?

My wife had our baby girl 3 days ago ceasarion and the hospital let us come home last night. My wife was fine when we left the hospital but now this morning she is complaining of being cold and shivering. I just took her temperature and it is 98.1. Not terribly cold but she is quite saying she feels very cold. Should I take her back to the hospital?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear user,

I really understand your concern.

There's nothing to worry, they’ll go away within a few minutes or, at most, a few hours.

Temperature 98.1 F is normal.

Most women will experience full-body shaking after delivery. The shakes occur from the immediate hormonal shifts that occur after delivery. They might also be a reaction to the anesthesia or an endorphin release.

So in this case, just care for your wife and baby girl at home.

All the best!
