What Causes Confused Behavior In A Person While On Xanax?

my wife had a scary neurological episode while taking xanax. She was under treatment for anxiety and depression and was also taking Zoloft and ambien. After about five weeks of xanax (1 to 1 1/2 mgs daily) she became incoherent after a second does of 1/2 mgs. She couldn t finish sentences and was using nonsense words. She went to the hospital and had a normal CT scan. She s been in the hospital 6 days and has had no repetitions of the incoherence. No one there has attempted to explain her one-time episode. Here is my question: How likely was the Xanax as the culprit in this episode?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The use of Xanax ( Alprazolam ) is very well known with number of side effects, the most common and relevant for your wife are

@ cognitive dysfunction

@ memory impairement

* The Ambien ( Zolpidem ) is also assciated with dizziness and apathy as side effect for a long period use.

It may be possible to get synergistic central nervous system effect of both and you are in this situation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
