What Causes Confused Reaction After Coming Out Of Coma?

Hi,my name is Barend and im from South Africa,
My mother was in a small car accident 2years ago and from casualtys she was taken to icu for almost 3months where she was sort of like in a coma because of some bacteria she picked up in the casualty ward after that she was placed in stepdown clinic for almost 3months and is at home and doing her things but she seems to be very confused at times.i dont know what to do anymore
