What Causes Confusion, Forgetfulness In A Patient With Alcoholic Addiction?

My brother is 55 years old. He is a chronic alcoholic. I m worried about his confusion, forgetfulness and talking loudly to himself. He can t eat meat and other foods; he ll eat fish, shrimp, noodle soup, fresh fruit. He sleeps a lot and his sleeping pattern is upside down. He is currently on medication for high blood pressure, enlarge heart, blood thinners and other medications....not sure. Should I be concerned? Should I try to encourage him to see his doctor?
