What Causes Congestion In Ears And Nose Along With Muffled Hearing?

5 weeks ago I had a cold that turned into a severe sinus infection I was placed on 10 days of amoxicillin. Still not feeling better I went to an ENT who put me on 10 days of Ceftin , afrin for 3 days and unlimited nasal spraying. I could not hear out of my left ear because I had fluid in my middle ear. After 3 days on ceftin, my ear popped and my congestion eased. Now I am off the ceftin for 1 week and my congestion is back and while I can hear it is muffled. The ENT says I still have congestion in my nose and ear. I should just take the nasal saline spray and Nasacort at night. I m afraid the hearing loss will come back. He told me if I don t feel better in a month to return. How long can eat congestion last. I ve never had sinus issues or allergies before. Is it possible it s allergies?

Thank you for following up. First of all you should do culture for flora and sensitivity to antibiotic from nose, throat and ear to be sure, that you don't have chronical infection and which antibiotic is helpful to you, because we have lots antibiotic resistance.Bacteria can accumulate in tonsillas and you can be carrier of Staphylococcus aureus or pathogenic Streptococcus or other. You can check your blood for IgE, high level of which indicate allergy. You can activate your immunity by using immunomodulators. Avoid adverse factors: overcooling, drafts, cold drinks, allergenic food.
Recovery soon
